You have no idea how many times I go to a market and come away feeling irritated, worried, annoyed..........not with customers, but with other traders of products similar to mine. I'm not jealous of their products, although some of them look very good to be honest. The problem is, so many of them are not legally compliant and break so many of the laws in place in the UK regarding selling candles, reed diffusers, bath products and cosmetics.

For instance it might seem a good idea to just mix 2 essential oils and make a candle. The prospect of a Lime and Lemon essential oil candle sounds good-yes? It is, but only if you have had your recipe assessed for safety in the quantities you are using. By mixing 2 oils together you have, in effect, created a completely new 'chemical' and they may not sit together as well as you think. As a combination, they may now trigger asthma or skin reactions for instance. Creating a formulation is a costly process and ensuring the labels are legally compliant is time consuming. S0, the next time you are at Craft Market and thinking of buying something, just check that the stallholder has the correct labelling to show they have met all the requirements to be able to sell their products. Just ask and if they look baffled at your question the chances are they are not CLP compliant so don't buy!
